The short version
Where’s Worldo is a free daily map game made by Kevin Lee, an independent developer. Play it as much as you like, for yourself, for free. Don't resell it, don't abuse it, and don't use it to navigate a ship. The place facts are researched with care but may contain errors — it's a game.
1. Acceptance of terms
These terms cover both the Where’s Worldo iOS app and the web game at whereisworldo.com (together, “Where’s Worldo”), developed by Kevin Lee (“we”, “us”). By installing, accessing, or playing Where’s Worldo, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy, which describes our data practices. If you do not agree, please do not use Where’s Worldo.
2. Who can play
Where’s Worldo is suitable for all ages. There are no accounts, no sign-in, and no user-generated content, and we do not collect personal information from anyone — including children. No age restriction applies.
3. Your license to play
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app and the website for your own non-commercial enjoyment. Where’s Worldo is free: no purchase, subscription, or account is required, and there are no ads.
4. Intellectual property
The game's design, code, scoring system, artwork, place write-ups, and branding are © Kevin Lee (kevincorvallis) or its licensors. You may not copy, redistribute, sell, or create derivative works from them without permission. Sharing your daily results (the built-in share feature) is, of course, encouraged.
5. Third-party data and attribution
Where’s Worldo is built on openly licensed geographic data, each part of which remains under its own license:
- GeoNames — place data, licensed CC-BY 4.0
- Natural Earth — map data, public domain
- OurAirports — airport data, public domain
- Map tiles (website) — served by OpenFreeMap, data © OpenStreetMap contributors
- Satellite imagery (website) — Esri World Imagery
6. Acceptable use
When using Where’s Worldo, you may not:
- Violate any laws or regulations in connection with your use
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with the app or website
- Disrupt, overload, or scrape the website, or abuse the third-party map services it relies on
- Misrepresent an affiliation with Where’s Worldo or its developer
7. Disclaimers
Where’s Worldo is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Game content is for entertainment: place facts, distances, and map data are researched with care but may contain errors or become outdated, and should not be relied on for navigation, travel planning, or any other consequential purpose. We make no guarantee that the app or website will always be available or error-free.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim any liability for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Where’s Worldo. It is a free game offered in good faith by one person.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The current version, with its effective date, always lives at this address. Continued use of Where’s Worldo after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
10. Termination
There are no accounts to terminate, but we reserve the right to block abusive traffic to the website and to modify or discontinue the app or website at any time. You can stop using Where’s Worldo whenever you like — deleting the app or clearing your browser data removes everything, as described in the privacy policy.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
